Autumn skin care: Prepare your skin for the colder months

Soins d'automne : Préparez votre peau pour les mois plus froids

Welcome to autumn! Ironically, my favourite season can also torture my skin if I don't make the necessary changes to my routine. Luckily, a few simple improvements can really help prepare my skin for a happy transition into autumn.

1. Shorten your showers

Shower

I love long, relaxing showers as much as the next person, but the truth is they wreak havoc on my skin. When the weather gets colder, I have to take short, light showers. It's better for my whole body, including my hair.

2. Increase exfoliation

My imperfections tend to get worse in the colder months, when dry skin clogs my pores. To keep my skin clear, I'm a fan of exfoliation. I use a grain-free scrub several times a week to keep my skin clear and soft.

3. Moisturise your skin all the time

Look for hyaluronic acid in the ingredients list of your autumn moisturiser or opt for a hydrating serum to apply under your day cream. Hydra No. 1 Serum is a great option. This serum will provide much needed hydration to the skin and help strengthen the skin barrier during the colder months. I find that in colder weather, skin needs a little extra care. Daily moisturising is therefore essential and using a ultra-moisturising mask once a week can help things along.

4. Use a gentle cleanser

In autumn, I favour gentle cleansers such as cleansing milks or cream cleansers. These formulas clean my make-up without stripping the skin and leave a soothing layer of moisture on my face. It's particularly useful for keeping at bay any redness or irritation that can appear with the cold.

5. Don't forget your lips

Autumn is the time when all the bold lip colours are out, and there's nothing that can ruin that fabulous look more than cold weather-damaged lips. A smoothing balm is your best friend, but I find it helps to treat chapped lips overnight to keep them plump and happy. Opt for rich emollients - the thicker the better - and you'll see that your lips get all the moisture they need.

How are you preparing your skin for autumn? I'd love to hear about your favourite cold weather products and treatments! Let me know in the comments
